Choosing Comfort with Black Diamond Gear
Testing the comfort of the Black Diamond Solution Guide Harness & Momentum Shoes.
I don’t know about you, but when I’m uncomfortable, it’s pretty hard to focus on the climb in front of me. When you’re on the wall, the last thing you want is to be distracted by your gear. The more comfortable and intuitive it feels, the less you think about it, leaving you free to focus on what really matters: your movement, your breathing and the next hold.
For this video, Shae Maclean & I headed out to Mt Buffalo National Park for a few sunset laps, putting the Black Diamond Solution Guide Harness and Momentum Shoes to the test. From the versatile, feature-packed harness to the all-day comfort of the shoes, it’s all about finding that sweet spot where your gear works with you, not against you.

The Solution Guide Harness is built for versatility, whether you’re sport climbing, trad climbing, heading into the mountains or tackling alpine objectives. With adjustable leg loops and riser straps, four large gear loops, a fifth rear loop and four ice clipper slots, it’s ready for a wide range of adventures.
The Momentum Shoes take a less aggressive approach, prioritising comfort for those longer days on the rock. They’re designed for climbers who want a comfortable, dependable shoe they can wear from the first pitch to the last.
Because the best gear is the gear you barely notice, leaving you free to stay present and enjoy the climb.
And the sunset? Absolutely unreal. Mt Buffalo’s Horn area delivered the most incredible orange hues, making for a pretty special evening on the rock. If you haven’t climbed here before, I’d definitely recommend heading up for a sunset session.
