Jetboil Chocolate Fondue
John Carroll's Jetboil Chocolate Fondue recipe is exactly what you need after a long, cold day on rock.
There are foods that belong to camp because they are practical, and then there are foods that belong to camp because they make people happy. This Chocolate fondue sits in the second category; it’s warm, rich, quick to make, and exactly right after a long, cold day on rock.
Standard chocolate fondue
Serves: 2 very hungry climbers or 4 as a dessert Equipment: Jetboil (or small camp stove and pot), spoon, knife and a mug to scoop out of.
Ingredients Suggested dippers
• 200 g dark/ Vegan dark
chocolate, chopped
• Strawberries or Bananas
• Marshmallows
• 150 ml long life cream or 165ml coconut cream
• Dried apricots or dried figs
• Shortbread or oat biscuits
• Pinch of salt
• Torn up Croissant
Method
- Get the dippers ready first. Slice any fruit, open the biscuit packet, and have everything ready before heating the chocolate.
- Heat the cream gently. Pour the cream or coconut cream into the Jetboil pot and warm until steaming but not boiling hard.
- Turn off the heat. Add the chopped chocolate, and the pinch of salt, then let it sit for 30-60 seconds.
- Stir until smooth. Stir slowly until glossy. If too thick, loosen with 1 tbsp hot water; if too thin, add a little more chocolate.
- Eat immediately. Eat from the pot or pour into mugs or bowls for dipping. If it firms in the cold, briefly rewarm while stirring… but… as if it will have time.
Camp notes
• Pre-chop the chocolate at home and pack it in a zip bag or reusable container with the salt.
• Fresh fruit is excellent on the first night of a trip; by the second or third night, dried fruit and biscuits are usually the smarter option.
• Because Jetboils run hot, it is best to heat gently and finish the fondue off the flame.

Final Thoughts:
On a cold evening at camp, fondue feels gloriously disproportionate to the effort involved – small act of luxury made from almost nothing, and all the better for being shared. To get yourself a Jetboil check out their website.
John Carroll, He thought he was going to get away with writing one recipe… So, we hunted him down to prove otherwise. He figured that something sweet and warm would placate us over Winter, but we doubt it.
